How did I get it?:
I bought it.
For months Clara Gardner trained to face the fire from her visions, but she wasn’t prepared for the choice she had to make that day. And in the aftermath, she discovered that nothing about being part angel is as straightforward as she thought.
Now, torn between her love for Tucker and her complicated feelings about the roles she and Christian seem destined to play in a world that is both dangerous and beautiful, Clara struggles with a shocking revelation: Someone she loves will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.
I’ve only recently read Unearthly which was a book I loved that I really wasn’t expecting to love. I couldn’t wait to read the next in the series which is Hallowed. I’ve been surprised about how much I have enjoyed this series so far. It’s so easy to read and has a lot more depth than other books like it. I’ve never really been a big fan of angel books but this series from Cynthia Hand is different.
Hallowed follows on fairly soon after the events of Unearthly. Clara has to live with her decisions to break from her purpose. She’s torn between Tucker and Christian, both guys she is drawn to in very different ways. Clara begins to have dreams about an event in the near future, she knows someone she loves is going to die. In Hallowed, Clara has to deal with so many things. She has to deal with her conflicted emotions about Tucker and Christian, the fact that someone she loves is going to die and also she has the consistent presence of a Black Wing.
One of the things that I love the most about this series is the fantastic characters. They are so well written and developed. I find myself really rooting for them. I’m interested in the secondary characters as well including Angela and Wendy, Clara’s friends. I find myself always wanting to know more about angels, part-angels and Black Wings. I just hope that Boundless answers some of the questions I have. There’s still so much scope to be discovered. The love triangle in this series is also incredibly well written. A love triangle can be incredibly irritating in some books, but in this series it just works. This is probably because Tucker and Christian are characters that most girls would fall in love with!
I didn’t think Hallowed was as good as Unearthly, but it’s still a decent, addictive read and I’ll definitely be reading Boundless.
Would I recommend it?:
