Synopsis:

Sky, a senior in high school, meets Dean Holder, a guy with a promiscuous reputation that rivals her own. From their very first encounter, he terrifies  and captivates her. Something about him sparks memories of her deeply troubled past, a time she’s tried so hard to bury. Though Sky is determined to stay far away from him, his unwavering pursuit and enigmatic smile break down her defenses and the intensity of the bond between them grows. But the mysterious Holder has been keeping secrets of his own, and once they are revealed, Sky is changed forever and her ability to trust may be a casualty of the truth.

Only by courageously facing the stark revelations can Sky and Holder hope to heal their emotional scars and find a way to live and love without boundaries. Hopeless is a novel that will leave you breathless,
entranced, and remembering your own first love.

Thoughts:

I’ve heard so much about this book from various bloggers and it appearing on many ‘Top Ten’ lists. I thought it was about time that I got to reading it. I had a nice break between reading review books so I decided to try out Hopeless. It didn’t take me long to read at all, once I was stuck in. It’s a touching, but at times funny read. My overall emotion when finishing it though was sadness.  Some of the issues it deals with are incredibly tough to read. Yet, Colleen Hoover writes them very well.

Sky is a great character. She doesn’t realise how broken she is until she meets Holder. I just knew when I started reading that I would really feel for her at several points in the book and I wasn’t wrong. I loved how strong Sky was, despite everything that had happened to her. I loved her interactions with Holder. Holder is also a fabulous character. I was just waiting for him to mess up, and I won’t spoil it and tell you whether he did or not, if you haven’t already read it. His relationship with Sky was beautiful, he was very compassionate towards her. It was incredibly touching. He knew her better than she knew herself which you’ll understand when you read it.

The plot itself was heart-breaking and at the same time heart-warming. I really didn’t expect the twist and I also didn’t expect to feel as emotional as I did about it. I’d highly recommend Hopeless to those that enjoy the New Adult genre and a touching, emotional read.

Would I recommend it?:
Of course!

  1. I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy the sequel to this or not, since a lot of the impact is in the twist, but I shall read it anyway. Colleen Hoover has made it onto my short ‘instant’ buy list. Have you read Slammed yet? If not, you absolutely have to! 🙂
