Another Little Piece Of My Heart

What if your devastating break-up became this summer’s hit single? In this rock-and-roll retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, music can either bring you together or tear you apart.

At her dying mother’s request, Claire dumps Jared, the only boy she’s ever loved. Left with a broken family and a broken heart, Claire is furious when she discovers that her biggest regret became Jared’s big break. While Jared is catapulted into rock-star status, another piece of Claire’s heart crumbles every time his song plays on the radio.

The summer after her senior year, it’s been months since the big break-up, and Claire is just trying to keep her head down and make it through a tense trip to the beach with her family. But when Jared shows up, and old feelings reignite, can Claire and Jared let go of the past? Or will they be stuck singing the same old refrain?

I’d heard good things about Another Little Piece Of My Heart, so I was really looking forward to reading it. I thought it was a good read, which didn’t take long to read at all. It’s a sweet, yet sometimes very bitter look about love and how decisions you make aren’t always the right ones. It’s also a story of how sometimes life gives you a second chance.

Claire was a great protagonist. She was bitter, which isn’t surprising after all she’s been through. Sometimes female leads can become far too whiny that it’s off putting, but I could totally see where Claire was coming from. I can even understand why she broke up the relationship at her mother’s request. Wouldn’t you want to put less stress on an ill relation? I initially wasn’t sure what attracted Claire to Jared, as he didn’t come across as a lovely person at all. Some of his remarks were way too much, but as the story unfolds we begin to see that Jared isn’t that bad after all. The fame hasn’t gone to his head, and really he’s just dealing (badly) with the aftermath of a break-up!

If you’re looking for a swoon-worthy, romantic read, then this isn’t it. There aren’t really any moments that make the reader swoon. It’s more about dealing with a messy break-up and how it affects their lives. There is a lot of tension in the story, and there’s certainly chemistry between Claire and Jared.

Although there isn’t a whole lot of romance in this read, it’s still intriguing and sweet. I think Tracey Martin portrays the confusion and bitterness of a relationship break-up perfectly.

  1. This sounds pretty good! I like more realistic and touching than swoon worthy, nice to see a romance book with a little more depth
