The Little Shroud is an incredibly short (but weird) fairy tale. It’s one of Grimm’s ghostly tales. It centres around a little boy who is deeply loved by everyone that knows him, especially his mother. One day the boy unexpectedly falls ill and dies. His mother is in pieces and spends most of her time crying. The boy appears to her and they cry together.
Soon enough, the boy appears in the little shroud in which he was buried. He asks his mother to stop crying as it made the shroud wet and he couldn’t get to sleep. The mother was startled, but found herself crying less which meant her son could finally rest in peace.
This was an odd little tale, but it carries with it the message that the dead deserve their rest!
