Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.
This week is all about those books that we gave up on too easily. I decided to spin the topic and talk about books that I didn’t finish reading for one reason or another. Now, I don’t like to be too negative on my blog, so please remember that these books just didn’t work for me. I don’t think they are bad books at all. It’s just I found something about them problematic personally. You may have loved them!
Book images go to Goodreads!
This one might shock a few people because I know it’s quite well loved! I found it to be a bit of a slow burner and a little predictable.
I found this book lacked depth when it could have had so much!
This was a sweet enough story but I really didn’t connect with the characters.
I was so disappointed with this book!
The pacing of this book really affected my enjoyment!
I know others have really enjoyed this book, but it really didn’t work for me.
This story didn’t engage me like I wanted and I didn’t connect with the characters.
I really didn’t enjoy the second half of this book and promptly gave up!
I feel bad for featuring this book as I know so many love it, but the series really didn’t work for me.
I know a lot of my blogging friends adore this book, but again, it didn’t work for me. I think my main problem was Lila! I just didn’t connect with her as a character.
I’ve seen “Across the Universe” a lot on Goodreads or on lists by bloggers, but for some reason I’ve never been interested in reading it.
Happy Top Ten Tuesday, Chrissi!
Thanks Rissi! 🙂 I was so excited to read it, but ended up feeling a little let down!
Oh my gosh, I COMPLETELY agree about Linger. I absolutely love Maggie Stiefvater, but I only just barely made it through Shiver and couldn’t bring myself to continue the series. A little too much angst for me. Lol. And I feel like that series has such a different vibe than a lot of her other books, but maybe that’s just me. Awesome list!!
There’s so much angst that it’s almost cringe-y! Thanks Loretta! 🙂
I’ve only read two of these–I agree with you and with Loretta that Shiver is where I bogged down in the series, and it put me off Stiefvater for awhile! But I enjoyed Because You’ll Never Meet Me.
I’m glad that you enjoyed Because You’ll Never Meet Me!
I haven’t read any of these and would definitely avoid anything written by a celebrity. Saying that I did enjoy Sheila Hancock’s memoirs about her life with John Thaw and following his death.
That does sound like it would be an interesting read.
Across the Universe was on my list too, I just couldn’t get into it?
So strange! I had such high expectations for it.
At first I felt guilty when I DNFed a book but time is too precious! I haven’t read any of those!
It is totally too precious to spend time on a bad book!
AHHHH So sad about Because You’ll Never Meet Me. It’s one of my favorite books ever. Though I get why it would put you off.
Aw, thank you for understanding!
UHh, I fought myslef through Shiver but didn’t even attempt to read Linger, the author writing style just doens’t agree with me.
Great list!

I’m put off reading more by her because of Shiver!
Weirdly, even though you didn’t like these, I’m kind of excited to see some titles I haven’t before!
There’s nothing wrong with that!
Great list, Chrissi! That’s a shame about All the Truth That’s in Me – I really enjoyed that one, but it’d be so boring if we all thought the same things about every book – but looking back I probably should have DNF’d Across the Universe because I did find it really boring and I never continued with the series.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that found Across The Universe boring!
Linger has such a great cover. It’s too bad you didn’t like the storyline itself.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you.
It was a shame!
I couldn’t get into Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I am glad there are other people who feel the same way as me about the series since everyone always raves about it.
I always get confused by the raves about it!
Great list! I haven’t read any of these but based on this I will probably leave them off the TBR! 😊

I wouldn’t blame you…
Across the Universe didn’t work for me either, and I gave it a solid go when the movie was coming out.
It seems to be a popular one that people weren’t keen on.
Eh, if it doesn’t work for you then it just doesn’t. I’ve got a few books like that, including Throne of Glass. Just couldn’t get into it. No shame!
It’s so true! It would be boring if we all liked the same book.
I started the Shiver series and loved the first two. I haven’t read the last one yet though. And I’m super excited for All The Truth That’s in Me. I think people shouldn’t get upset if you don’t like the same books as them though. Everyone has their own opinion and you should definitely be able to share yours.

Exactly! It would be boring if we all liked the same books.
Sorry Linger didn’t work for you. I was one of the people who enjoyed it.
I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
I haven’t read it myself, but I’ve seen Across the Universe on a few lists today. I never finished the Shiver series either 🙂
It just doesn’t interest me anymore…
I’m not even familiar with most of these books, so I guess I need to get out more maybe…or stay in on the blogoverse more.
Have a great week.
Ha! No, I just read a lot of different genres!
I did like All the Truth that’s in Me, but I see your point. I read Across the Universe, but never finished the rest of the series. I think I started the second book once and didn’t get past a chapter.
That doesn’t surprise me!
I really hated Across the Universe, but finished it because at the time I was focused on numbers not on quality. So regret it.
I can see why you would have felt that way! At least we both read quality now.
I read All The Truth That’s In Me but I literally don’t remember what it was haha it didn’t really leave an impression
I’m not surprised! I can’t recall what it was about either!
I haven’t read or actually seen any of these. My list is short thankfully!!

I shall check it out!
It’s interesting how some people can really love and connect with a character. It’s a bit sad when I don’t get that connection!
It is indeed!
I’m here with you on both Linger and Across the Universe! I feel the same. They were just… not my cup of tea. Great list! I don’t recognize a couple of titles but honestly I’m glad that I don’t.
Thank you! Yes, I don’t think you’re missing much…
I can definitely understand issues with the Stiefvater series. I think if I were to pick it up now I wouldn’t love it nearly as much as I did.
Oh a couple that had looked good. Darn!
You might enjoy them though!
