A Week In The Life Of A Primary School Teacher- Time is going by fast!

Every Sunday (hopefully) I shall be posting a personal post about my life as a primary school teacher. I currently work at a primary school teaching Year 2 (6-7 year olds). My training posts on this subject were really successful and so therapeutic for me, therefore I’ve decided to continue posting on the topic. I will not be naming any children, or the school where I work. If personal posts aren’t your thing then feel free to skip these posts. I won’t mind! Bookish goodness returns as normal Monday-Saturday!

I can’t believe tomorrow starts the third week of this seven week half term. Time is going by so fast. I’m really trying to enjoy these last few weeks with my class. It’s tough, because I feel at around this time of year, children almost outgrow the year/class they’re in. They become a little frustrated with one another and there’s plenty of arguments. I think some of it is down to tiredness too, especially with the younger children. So being positive when they’re irritating/irritated by each other can be a little tricky! However I’m giving it a good shot.

We have so much to pack in over the next few weeks that I’m pretty sure time is going to pass by even quicker. We have Sports Day next week which is always good fun.

As well as all the exciting things that come with the summer term, we’re still plodding on with teaching normal lessons. Maths this week is Time. I hate teaching time as children find it really tricky. I’m hoping that the penny drops for some of them this week. I have introduced 2 children wearing watches all day and I randomly spot test them on the time. That seems to be improving so many children’s ability to tell the time.

As for my new class, I’m starting to slowly get resources ready for the next academic year. I love a fresh start and I’m trying to get bits ready for the classroom change as well. It’s something that takes SO long in the summer and if I can get resources ready now, I’ll have a head start!

Exciting times ahead!

  1. I think time was indeed one of those tricky lessons as a child, but I hope the class will get better and better at telling time.

The end of the school year must be a little be weird, right? But good luck with preparing the resources for the new kids!

I miss the long summer vacation… Have a great week!
