A Week In The Life Of A Primary School Teacher- New subject ahead!

Every Sunday (hopefully) I shall be posting a personal post about my life as a primary school teacher. I currently work at a primary school teaching 6-7 year olds. My training posts on this subject were really successful and so therapeutic for me, therefore I’ve decided to continue posting on the topic. I will not be naming any children, or the school where I work. If personal posts aren’t your thing then feel free to skip these posts. I won’t mind! Bookish goodness returns as normal Monday-Saturday!

This week has been an interesting one! I found out that I’m going to be taking leadership of a new subject from September. I’m going to be in charge of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education). I’m excited about a new subject. It might not seem like a ‘big’ or ‘important’ subject, but there’s much more to it than first meets the eye. I look forward to getting stuck into it soon.

We had Sports Day this week which went really well. I always feel a sense of pride when I watch Sports Day. You really get to see some children shine that don’t always get that sense of achievement with academic subjects. We also have some children with very challenging needs and to see them participate warms my heart.

My heart was also totally warmed when I looked around the classroom during their English lesson this week. They were all on task, working quietly and producing fabulous work. They’ve come so far since September 2017 and it’s so easy not to recognise that. You’re with them every week day as a teacher and don’t always realise the progress they’ve made. Moments like these make me realise why I love teaching. ❤

Somehow, I had forgotten reports are going out to parents next week. Luckily, for me, my school doesn’t complete a long report in the Summer term. I could easily complete my reports in a few hours after school. Much better than the mid-year report which takes me days to complete for 30 children.

Next week is a pretty unremarkable one, but I’m going to try and make the most of my class. Only 20 more school days left until summer!

  1. So good you took the time to reflect during English class on how far your students have come. Sounds like you’re a wonderful teacher. I remember Sports Days with my own kids, a fun time. 🙂

  2. Same here I am in my NQT year and have been given PSHE for subject leadership next year. I think there is more to it than most people think, especially in a values led school. Thank you for sharing your experiences it is nice to see how others structure and write their posts.

Comments make me smile and I love to reply to them! Thanks for visiting today!
