Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.
This week’s list is all about the series that we’ve given up on. It feels quite negative to do a list like this. I always feel sorry for the author’s that have put effort into these stories. However, not every book will work for every reader. I’m happy to show these books in case others are interested in them!

Oh boy. I feel like my list could offend some people this week. I just didn’t enjoy this book. I found it to be a little too cringe-y for my liking.
I enjoyed the first book but then I began to read more widely and realised it was quite same-y. I tried to start the second book but it didn’t engage me enough and I stopped reading.
Again, the first book was alright, I just don’t feel like committing myself to this series.
I liked this series despite it being a bit ridiculous. After book 6 though I was done with the series and the character.
Sorry fans of Cassandra Clare! Her writing just doesn’t work for me.
I really wanted to love this book but it just didn’t work for me!
Read to Book 3. I have no interest in continuing the series!
Here’s another one that I wanted to love. Unfortunately it just wasn’t my sort of thing. I tried the second book, but gave up!
I didn’t think that when I started this series that I’d ever put this series on a list like today’s. However, after book 4, I had just lost interest in the series. They got a little too long for my liking and the plot wasn’t what I wanted it to be.
I enjoyed the first book, but then heard really mixed reviews for the next book. It definitely made me lose interest.
I haven’t read any of Sarah’s books, but have decided to unhaul them. Once I was SUPER excited about her TOG books (because they LOOK so epic), but they no longer hold any appeal. One reason being the increasing length!
I also have no interest in continuing with the Rebel Belle books. Book one was fun and cute, but just not my cup of tea. Of course, I do want to finish The Selection. Someday. 😀
I hope you get to finish The Selection one day. It’s something that really doesn’t interest me anymore.
Oh, I can really relate to your list! I never made it past the first book of Shiver, Matched, or Vampire Academy. I couldn’t even get through Throne of Glass, though I tried TWICE, and while I read the Clockwork Angel trilogy, I have no interest in her other works. I love Laini Taylor so much, and actually did like the first two books in the series you show here, but couldn’t get through the third one for some reason.
*whispers* maybe we don’t like teen angst?
*whispers* That is so true…I don’t think we do!
I gave up on matched and Rebel belle as well! You’re not alone! ❤️
❤ Good to know! I just don't feel like they're for me anymore.
I definitly understand what you mean about Shiver. I loved it when I read it but I can’t say I’d feel the same if I picked it up now. Oh man. I called it quits at #6 with Shopaholic too! The constant cringing was becoming physically painful. lol
The cringing did become too much!
We definitely have some overlap this week. I agree with you, it’s hard to quit a series – especially ones we used to love. Just maybe it will make way for our new favorite series 🙂
That’s a good way to look at it!
Wow I totally forgot about dropping Rebel Belle after the first book! (I wasn’t crazy about the sound of the rest of the series but the first book is still fun to read…)
Yes, it was definitely a good read, I just wasn’t compelled to read the next book.
I haven’t read any of these books yet, although I do plan on reading a couple of them eventually. I hope I like them better than you, but I’ve read a couple of these TTT lists where people hated books that I loved so, you never know.
That’s right, you could totally love them! It’s what makes blogging interesting.
I’ve not started any of these, although I should read Daughter Of Smoke And Bone. I still have Strange The Dreamer to tackle! I’m more likely to get through a trilogy than a series, although I am devouring the Spellslinger books.
I’m glad that you’re enjoying those books!
A lot of the series I never got to finish were DNF due to me growing up and just not having the books lying around.
I know that feeling!
This is a great list, a lot of these I’ve never got to (but I do love Daughter of Smoke and Bone)
My TTT
I’m glad that you love it. It didn’t work for me unfortunately. 😦
Great list, Chrissi! I gave up on Across the Universe, Matched and Throne of Glass too, they just weren’t for me, and sadly I can’t seem to get on with Maggie Stiefvater’s writing either although I wish I could.
I wish I could too. Everyone raves about her.
Ooh yes Shopaholic for me too! I liked the first couple of books but after a few it got a bit tedious and OTT
I completely agree!
I only read the first book in the Selection and kind of gave up. I just didn’t feel like it was the series for me. Great list!

Thanks Victoria. It didn’t work for me either.
I didn’t finished Matched either. You’re not alone there.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It really didn’t work for me!
You made it further than I did with the Selection series. I don’t blame you for not finishing it!
Ha, thanks! It was just so tedious!
I really disliked Matched and that whole series. I finished it and hated myself for it. LOL! Back then, I was a little OCD about finishing series and feeling complete. Now, I’m like… no thanks! haha.
Ha! I don’t think I could make myself do it!
Yeah, I regret that decision!
I don’t think I’ll end up reading the Infernal Devices either. I’m sure the characters are great but my zero-tolerance policy for love triangles would seriously affect my experience.
Urgh… love triangles are the worst!
Ugh to Across the Universe. I’m glad I’m not the only one that has disdain for that one. I did not like Shiver much myself, so you are not alone.
Good to know!
I also made it to book 3 of The Selection series and couldn’t go any further, I really enjoyed the first one though
The first one was ok for me. Not the best, but it made me read more.
You are so right. We don’t always connect with certain books, but others might. I haven’t read most of the books on your list, although several I am curious about. I think I read the first three books in the Shopaholic series–they were quite fun, if out there. I haven’t picked up the later books in the series, but maybe someday.
Yes, they’re definitely out there!
Matched and The Selection were both series that I didn’t make it through, since they didn’t seem to go very far.
They really didn’t!
I gave up on the Selection series after book two and Cassandra Clare’s books aren’t for me either I’m afraid.
I feel the same way!
I’ve not read any of these books, but as a rule of thumb, I have to absolutely love the first book to want to read the second book. This is only because there are so many books I want to read, and I feel I have to give other books a chance.
