Ten Of The Longest Books I’ve Read!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.

This week it’s all about the longest books we’ve read. I used Goodreads to find this out. Good old Goodreads! So here are mine…

Gone With The Wind- Margaret Mitchell- 1,037 pages

Gone with the Wind

This took me a while to get through but I got there in the end!

Shantaram- Gregory David Roberts- 933 pages

Shantaram

This took me a while to get through as well. I do remember enjoying it, but it was quite heavy-going.

The Crimson Petal And The White- Michel Faber- 901 pages

The Crimson Petal and the White

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and really didn’t expect to!

Into The Wilderness- Sara Donati- 876 pages

Into the Wilderness (Wilderness, #1)

A wonderful story!

Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix- J.K. Rowling- 870 pages

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5)

It didn’t feel like this book was as long as it is! I whizzed through it.

Outlander- Diana Gabaldan- 850 pages

Outlander (Outlander, #1)

I haven’t seen the show but I certainly enjoyed the books!

Winter- Marissa Meyer- 824 pages

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

I love this series. I didn’t want it to end but Winter was a wonderful ending.

The Summer Garden- Paullina Simons- 776 pages

The Summer Garden (The Bronze Horseman, #3)

I love this trilogy! Again, when a book is good it doesn’t feel like a long read!

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows- J.K. Rowling- 759 pages

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7)

Another book that I whizzed through! Although some parts of it irked me, on the whole I loved the ending!

Breaking Dawn- Stephenie Meyer-756 pages

Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4)

Yes, I read the Twilight books. I thought they were okay at the time but looking back… they’re not the best books in the world!

Tell me about the longest books you’ve read! Feel free to leave me a link and I’ll stop by!

  1. Everyone has read SO many impressively long reads, and then, there’s little me over here who has ten books that go only as high as 400-some pages. Goes to further prove what a wimp of a reader I am when it comes to lengthy reads. 😉

  2. I haven’t read any of these books but I have Shantaram on my TBR. It is one that I have always wanted to read because of the setting especially. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it despite the length.

  3. I’ve read Gone With the Wind but a very long time ago and probably before I started using Goodreads to track what I read (which is why it doesn’t appear on my list). I have The Crimson Petal and the White on my wishlist but find I have less inclination to tackle long books these days. There are so many other (shorter) books out there vying for my attention! Also, I think a long book has to be really outstanding to merit the time. I’m afraid I come across chunky books that I feel could really have done with some aggressive editing…

    Here’s my list: https://whatcathyreadnext.wordpress.com/2018/10/09/top-ten-tuesday-longest-books-ive-ever-read/

    • I know. I feel exactly the same. I’m so busy that it takes me ages to get through a chunky book and I don’t feel compelled to pick it up if it’s taking me so long to read. Nightmare!

  4. I agree with you about Breaking Dawn, looking back on it they are not the best books ever written, They will always hold a place in my heart though for reigniting my love of reading in highschool.

  5. I can’t check the exact page numbers for the moment but I’m pretty sure the longest book I’ve read is one of the George R.R. Martin ones in the Song of Fire and Ice series that went well over a 1000 pages.

  6. Diana Gabaldon’s books have considerably increased in size. The latest – Written In My Own Heart’s Blood – is 1296 pages! I have the audio (44 hours!!) which I haven’t been brave enough to tackle yet 😂

  7. I read Gone With the Wind as a teen and flew through it during one summer holiday – I really want to re-read it now but the size of it is so incredibly daunting to me these days. I adored The Crimson Petal and the White and wish the length hadn’t put me off for so long. Great post 🙂

  8. I don’t know why the Harry Potter books didn’t pop out at me when I put my list together! 🙂 The Outlander books are certainly long (but so worth the effort!)

  9. I can’t believe I forgot the Harry Potter books for my own list! A few of them are real bricks. It’s like you said, though, I whizzed through and didn’t even think of how big they were 🙂

  10. I’ve been meaning to read Gone With The Wind for so long, it’s not even funny haha. And Outlander as well… Of course I read the HP books, and Winter too. My longest books are probably between the A Song Of Ice And Fire books and IT.

  11. I’m reading Order of the Phoenix aloud to my daughter right now! It takes quite a while to read those books out loud 🙂 Crimson Petal and Gone with the Wind are both on my must-read list.
