A Week In The Life Of A Primary School Teacher- Great to be back!

Every Sunday (hopefully) I shall be posting a personal post about my life as a primary school teacher. I currently work at a primary school teaching 7-9 year olds. I have worked for two years with 6-7 years, 1 year with 7-9 and now I’m returning to my favourite age! My training posts on this subject were really successful and so therapeutic for me, therefore I’ve decided to continue posting on the topic. I will not be naming any children, or the school where I work. If personal posts aren’t your thing then feel free to skip these posts. I won’t mind! Bookish goodness returns as normal Monday-Saturday!

On Monday, I returned to school after two weeks off. Now my holiday break wasn’t that great but I’m not going to go into reasons why. Just know that I was very happy to get back to school!

This week has been fabulous. I was worried on Monday as they were super chatty and had seemed to forget how to behave. After that day though, they were back to their normal selves. The children have tried super hard this week and I’m really pleased with their efforts. I’m still determined to improve their writing. I’m hoping it’ll improve this term. They’re not bad at it, by any means. They’re just not writing at their age related expectations. I need to encourage them to expand their sentences and stop writing so basically. I’m hoping with time this will come. Fingers crossed.

We’ve been reading more picture books for our PSHE lessons (Personal, Social and Health Education). I love a book with a good moral and this week’s book was all about being grateful for who you are and not comparing yourself to others. They immediately got the message and it was lovely to chat about it with them. I’ve got several children now who really enjoy PSHE which is exactly what I wanted.

As for spending 1:1 time with my children by having lunch with them, I’ve managed to have lunch with every child and now we’re on round 2. They love finding out who I’m going to be eating with and it’s a lovely opportunity for me to get to know them on a personal level. 🙂

It’s been a great week. I really was very happy to be back. I’m enjoying this class immensely!
