Top Ten Books I’m On The Fence About Reading

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.

This week’s list are the books that we’re on the fence about reading. I have a few of these! Ha.

As ever, book images go to Goodreads!

The Jewel (The Lone City, #1)

I used to really want to read this book but I’ve heard a few things that have put me off.

Water for Elephants

I have wanted to read this book for a long time! I think I’m nervous I won’t like it.

Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1)

I’m not a massive fan of this genre, but I’ve heard good things. I’m torn!

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)

I have yet to read this series. I’m not sure whether it would be for me or not.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1)

Pretty sure that this book has made numerous appearance on my blog, but I STILL haven’t made time for it.

Incarnate (Newsoul, #1)

Hm. I used to really be into this sort of read, but I’m not anymore.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

I know this series is massively popular but I’m not sure it’s for me.

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1)

I’ve heard very mixed things about this book so I’m really on the fence about reading it.

Into the Dim (Into the Dim, #1)

I was originally really excited about reading this book, but I’m not so sure about it now.

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)

I’m not sure I want to continue the Throne Of Glass series. I started this book but felt pretty ‘meh’ about it.

What do you think about my selection? Are there any of your favourites that you want to root for? Let me know!

  1. I have The Jewel and Incarnate on my bookshelf, but haven’t read either one. Both have been there for a LONG time though so at this point I either need to read them or unhaul them. 😀

Hope you enjoy these if you decide to read them, Chrissi!

  2. Incarnate and Girl of Fire and Thorns have been on my shelf for so long. I recently heard there is awful fat reap in Girl of Fire and it makes me even more wary to try it. Who knows… maybe I’ll check them out someday – too many books!

  3. I feel the same way about City of Bones. I actually like how Empire of Storms ended. I’m reading Tower of Dawn. I like it so far. Hope you find the motivation to read the rest.

  4. Same here on Water for Elephants. I saw the movie and kinda wanted to read the book after that, but then… I never did. Into the Dim is another one- I remember being initially excited but then some mixed reviews dampened my enthusiasm.

  5. Great list, Chrissi! I couldn’t get into Throne of Glass, so you’re not alone there, but I have heard amazing things about Girl of Fire and Thorns. 🙂

  6. I see some familiar faces. 😀 I’ve read Easy. It was a long time ago I barely remember. But I think I liked it. I enjoyed most of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books as well. Personally, I like her fantasy series better than her contemporary ones. My favorite is the Lux series. 😍 I’ve read Beautiful Disaster years ago, and I liked it a lot. The Mortal Instruments is another of my favorites. It’s the one that made me fall in love with reading. ❤ I’m not that hyped anymore about Throne of Glass. I kind of fell out of love with the series after the second book. But it was still “tolarable” that I didn’t DNF the entire series. I’ve read Empire of Storms, and if my memory serves me right I think I enjoyed it immensely. Now, I’ve yet to pick up Kingdom of Ash. 🤓

  7. I’ve had several of these books on my TBR at one point or still do. I liked Beautiful Disaster but didn’t really care for the following books! The author went a little too far with the same characters. I remember liking Easy too. I really enjoyed The Mortal Instruments and Throne of Glass. They are big time commitments though.

  8. I’ve heard of a lot of these, but they aren’t what I usually read. My daughter loved The Mortal Instrument series and still talks about it from time to time. Not sure it’s my thing.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  9. Great list! Water For Elephants wasn’t for me (animal cruelty!), I never continued TMI series after book two I think, and Empire Of Storms made me fall out of love with the Throne Of Glass series… I just finished the third Fire And Thorns book though and I can definitely recommend all three books as they are consistently strong.

  10. I liked Empire of Storms. Reading Tower of Dawn now, and it’s good too. City of Bones was not my highest rated book, but I love all the books after that, so to me it’s worth reading that one just to get to the rest of the series.
