Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.
This week it’s all about the first reviews that we’ve written. I decided to go for my first ten reviews on my blog. Well, this was cringy experience for me! Ha! Here they are, with links going to the review!
- The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry– Rachel Joyce
- Some Kind Of Fairy Tale– Graham Joyce
- In The Time Of Butterflies– Julia Alvarez
- The Abigail Affair– Timothy Frost
- One Moment, One Morning– Sarah Rayner
- The Other Daughter– Lisa Gardner
- The Song Of Achilles– Madeline Miller
- Specials– Scott Westerfeld
- Sense and Sensibility– Jane Austen
- Magic Under Glass– Jaclyn Dolamore
Ooo! “Magic Under Glass” seems really interesting, an assumption I’m basing solely off its title since it’s not an author I know. Also, the teacup cover art on your second listing is so cuute! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 Magic Under Glass is a fabulous read.
I know, I cringed a little at mine too haha! And these look so interesting- you have some neat early reviews, looks like. 🙂 The Song of Achilles sounds amazing, and I love that cover for One Moment, One Mornin.
Thank you, Greg! 🙂 I did have some good ones here!
Wow, even your earliest reviews are already well-structured. Meanwhile, I still haven’t figured out how to structure my posts seven years later.
Aw! Thank you! I prefer writing them now, they used to take me ages in the early days!
I’ve definitely got better at reviewing. It’s always fun to see how far we’ve come though! You reviewed some great books at first!

🙂 Thank you!
I love this post and your early reviews are still good. Mine were a disaster. I used some review style that I found online which basically discusses everything about the book hence giving away the plot, sort of like a summary. Had to go back and rewrite some of those reviews.
It’s so hard to find a balance! Thanks Diana. Always nice to read that they were good!
Great list, Chrissi! I love The Song of Achilles so much. I haven’t heard of Magic Under Glass, but it looks and sounds like one I need to check out!
I think you’d enjoy it! 🙂
I loved looking at the covers for this, I forgot to look at your links! Adoring the different books in your first 10m chrissi! and more than a couple I have to check out!
😀 I love that you like the sound of them!
The Song of Achilles does sound interesting.
My TTT.
It is a decent read!
I had Specials on my list as well. I didn’t link to my reviews though, they’re still on my blog so they can be found but they’re so cringey, I didn’t really want to direct people to them!

Ha! I know the feeling. I just try not to look at my own ones myself!
Oh yeah me too, they’re there for anyone who wants to see them, but I definitely don’t need to!
I really need to read The Song of Achilles!!
I love seeing when everyone started blogging. 🙂

It really is fun to look at!
I’m so curious about Some Kind of Fairy Tale now.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s well worth giving a try!
I love these, Chrissi! I was reading some of the same books at the same time! Nothing to cringe about at all! ♥️
❤ Thank you! I was just worried my reviews weren't that great…
I thought they were terrific! ♥️
Oh, I love Sense and Sensibility. Are you a fan of the Emma Thompson movie?
I really liked it! 😀
I wonder if, ten years from now, if we did the same thing, if the books would be so unfamiliar. The only book I recognize from this list is The Song of Achilles (I haven’t read it though).
It seemed like it was a very popular book!
Oh gosh I remember reading Specials a suuuuper long time ago what a throwback
It really is! Ha!
How long have you been blogging? It sounds like we all grew into our”job” as book reviewers. Thanks for visiting my blog.
Since 2013! 🙂
You have some great books on your list! We both featured Some Kind of Fairy Tale — I wonder if we started blogging at about the same time?
I was around 2013?
I started summer of 2012, so we’re in the same neighborhood. 🙂
Yet again, I come across Song of Achilles! I’ve read Circe, which is on my list, and absolutely love it, don’t know why I haven’t read Madeline Miller’s first book. Magic Under Glass sounds enchanting, going to add that to my teetering TBR pile 🙂
I’m glad you’ve found books you want to read! 🙂
I don’t even want to think about those first reviews! xD I loved The Song Of Achilles and I’ve been meaning to get a copy of Harold Fry for so long now…
Ooh Harold Fry is good!
I’m really hoping to get a copy soon! I love the sound of it.
Best not to look too closely 😉 I still need to read Sense & Sensibility at some point.
Ha! 🙂
