Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they come up with a list for us to complete. This week the topic is Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island (pick based on however you want…skills they would bring, their company…or pure hotness factor :P)

So here are mine in no particular order!  My deserted island would certainly be an interesting one with these characters. Would they clash? Would they get on? Who knows!

Katniss EverdeenThe Hunger Games– For obvious reasons. I’m pretty sure she’s going to be on a LOT of people’s lists this week.

CinderThe Lunar Chronicles- Purely for her strength and general awesomeness!

Juliette Shatter Me– I think it would be pretty interested to see how she interacted with Katniss and Cinder.

Dean HolderHopeless/Losing Hope– I connected with his character so much through Hopeless and Losing Hope, so he just needs to be with me really.

Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood- Harry Potter– I bet Hermione would know some amazing spells to help us through. I think Luna is an amazing character and I’d find her fascinating.

Poppy Sinclair and her boyfriend MichaelDead Jealous/Dead Silent- I think I’d get on really well with Poppy and her boyfriend, so they’re welcome to join me!

Nimira and Erris- Magic Under Glass– Both adorable characters. I’d love to know more about them.

What characters would you want on a deserted island with you? Have we got any the same this week? Let me know! Feel free to leave a link to your Top Ten post and I’ll stop by!

Comparing ‘Cinder’ -Marissa Meyer

How did I get it?:
I bought it!

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Thoughts before you started reading Cinder?

CHRISSI: I’ve wanted to read this for a long time. I remember seeing the cover and being really intrigued.

LUNA: I love retellings anyway but the reviews I’ve seen for Cinder have been impressive. Not to mention the amount of people who keep telling me I had to read it. So pretty high expectations if I’m honest.

What did you think of Cinder?

CHRISSI: I thought Cinder was a great character. She had great spirit. I didn’t quite grow to love Prince Kai, I found him quite bland.

LUNA: I liked Cinder but it took quite a while for me to get involved in the book and her character. Strangely it was other characters (like Iko & Peony) that won me over to Team Cinder.

Best bit?

CHRISSI: think Cinder is a bold retelling of a classic fairy tale. It’s interesting to see a completely different take. I think my best bit was the storyline surrounding the plague. I found that really intriguing.

LUNA: Marissa Meyer world-building is brilliant. Sometimes I felt like I was standing next to Cinder. I also really liked the story, which had enough of the original but plenty of extras to keep me reading.

Worst bit?

CHRISSI: I know this is a series but I felt that Cinder left a few too many things left unanswered. It would’ve been nice to have more of a background as well.

LUNA: I thought Cinder’s identity storyline dragged on a little too long. It’s pretty clear from early on, by the time Cinder knows the impact is gone.

Favourite character / moment?

CHRISSI: I loved Cinder’s house robot Iko. So adorable.

LUNA: Iko, I really hope she returns in other books because I loved her.

Was Cinder what you expected?

CHRISSI: I think I expected it to be really amazing, but I just found it good.

LUNA: I think my expectations might have been too high, it’s a good story and I enjoyed myself but I wasn’t blown away.

Would you recommend it?

CHRISSI: I would!

LUNA: Yes, I also plan to continue with the series.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve just started reading Dark Winter by David Mark as part of a book club challenge. I can’t say much about it yet as I’ve just started it. It looks like it’s going to be pretty gripping though!

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished reading Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn. I love my historical fiction and this was a great read. It involved a nasty character which I just loved to hate! You can read my review HERE

What do you think you’ll read next?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is next and I’m so excited to read this book after reading so much about it on other blogs.
