Top Ten Unique Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s list is all about unique reads. It took me some time to think about them, but here they are!

Illuminae- Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)

The format of this book is what makes it so unique. I adored it!

George- Alex Gino

George

I find this book unique because its child-like narration is so authentic.

The Last Beginning- Lauren James

The Last Beginning (The Next Together, #2)

A sci-fi ish book with different formats. I’ve recently finished this book and I absolutely adored it!

One- Sarah Crossan

One

A hard-hitting book told in verse.

Cloud Busting- Malorie Blackman

Cloud Busting

This book deals with bullying through poetry ❤

The Girl With Glass Feet- Ali Shaw

The Girl With Glass Feet

A beautiful book with a fairy tale-esque story. My edition had silver page edges ❤

The Boy With The Cuckoo-Shaped Heart- Mathias Malzieu

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

Another fairy tale-esque story. So unusual, but so good!

Another Little Piece- Kate Karyus Quinn

Another Little Piece

Such an odd story. Yet, so compelling! I have a feeling that this book is either love or hate it though…

The Girl On Paper- Guillaume Musso

The Girl on Paper

This is definitely one of the most unique stories that I’ve read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Bird- Crystal Chan

Bird

I’ve included this one because of its beautiful writing. It really stood out for me in the middle grade genre!

I have listed some of these books before on my list, but I’ve added 5 new unique reads since I last made this list in 2014!

What did you put on your list this week? Feel free to leave a link to your post and I’ll stop by!

Bird by Crystal Chan was a unique read for me because there was just something incredibly beautiful about the writing. The writing immediately pulled me in and didn’t let go until I had finished reading.

11331421

I hadn’t really heard much about The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker until my sister bought it for me when she was on holiday.  This is another book with beautiful writing. Once you get used to the writing style, you’re completely drawn in.

6063110

This is such a unique read. The hardback cover I read has beautiful silver page ages. I’m a sucker for a beautiful book, both in appearance and inside. I loved the story.

6671933

Ah, I loved The Boy With The Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu. It’s a quick, fairy-tale esque read.

12749843

I thoroughly enjoyed The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Another fairy-tale book, with stunning writing. It’s intriguing and easy to read.

12665819

I was surprised that I enjoyed Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn so much.  I haven’t seen much middle ground surrounding this book. I think you either love it or hate it. I loved that this book confused me. It wasn’t straight forward. I hate being confused by a book, yet still utterly love it. That’s why this was a unique read for me.

6826861

This is such a weird book. Really weird. It’s actually really gross in sections. Dan Rhodes is certainly a unique writer.

7048800

I thought The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender  was a really well written book. The reason why I’ve listed it as unique is because of the wonderful title and it’s slight quirkiness/oddness!

15958671

The Girl On Paper by Guillame Musso is a fantastic book. Please don’t be put off by this cover! This book was strange to start with but it became such a wonderful story. One that I could definitely pull some amazing quotes out of about reading.

8591107

It had to be done. The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is one of the most unique series I’ve read. It completely messed with my mind. I NEED to know what happened. I NEED the last book in the series. I think it’s my most anticipated end book of the series so far!

Top Ten Books I was ‘Forced’ To Read

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely The Broke and The Bookish. Each week a topic is given for us bloggers to write a list for. This week it is Top Ten Books I Was “Forced” to Read (either by teachers, friends, other bloggers, book club) — doesn’t necessarily have to be a BAD thing. Could be required reading, yes, but also book club, or just super enthusiastic friends “making” you read something!

In no particular order:

Entangled

EntangledCat Clarke– I first heard about Cat Clarke’s book from Luna’s Little Library. Her reviews got me really intrigued, so I had to quickly read Entangled and Torn so I was ready to devour Undone when it was published. I think Cat Clarke’s writing keeps getting better and better.

16596148

Heart Shaped BruiseTanya Byrne– I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. Another book that was recommended by Luna’s Little Library. We reviewed it together HERE.

pushing-the-limits

Pushing The LimitsKatie McGarry– This is another book that Luna and I compared opinions on(review HERE). This book made me a fan of Katie McGarry. I can’t wait to read Crash Into You soon.

The%20Girl%20on%20paper%20UK

The Girl On PaperGuillaume Musso- I probably wouldn’t have read this book if it wasn’t for the book club that I’m in. I thought it was such a strange book, but an original story.

12649718

Me Before YouJojo Moyes– I think I probably would have read this book without book club, but I’m glad I read it pretty soon after it was published. It’s become one of my favourite books.

9226039

Into The Darkest CornerElizabeth Haynes– This was another book club read (I’m in various book clubs of several shapes and forms). It’s a gripping read which includes some very heavy topics that aren’t easy to read. Yet, I couldn’t stop turning the pages!

11882305

Before I Go To SleepS.J Watson- Another one from the book club recommendations.  Again, it’s not an easy subject matter, but it’s so well written, I burned through it!

83144

The Bronze HorsemanPaullina Simons– This is a book that was recommended to me by my sister. I loved it and thought that the character development was so impressive.

14050

The Time Traveler’s WifeAudrey Niffenegger– My sister recommended this book to me. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, with all the jumping around in time, but once I got used to it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

8196732

SisterRosamund Lupton– Sister was recommended to me by my sister. This is a touching read, which is so beautifully written.

Whilst writing this list, I’ve realised how many recommendations have come from Bibliobeth (my sister) and Luna (my good friend). I’ve also read some awesome books from book clubs.
