Ten Books I DNF (Did Not Finish)

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.

This week is all about those books that we gave up on too easily. I decided to spin the topic and talk about books that I didn’t finish reading for one reason or another. Now, I don’t like to be too negative on my blog, so please remember that these books just didn’t work for me. I don’t think they are bad books at all. It’s just I found something about them problematic personally. You may have loved them!

All the Truth That's in Me

This one might shock a few people because I know it’s quite well loved! I found it to be a bit of a slow burner and a little predictable.

A Different Me

I found this book lacked depth when it could have had so much!

A Hole in My Heart

This was a sweet enough story but I really didn’t connect with the characters.

The Pledge (The Pledge, #1)

I was so disappointed with this book!

Miss Carter's War

The pacing of this book really affected my enjoyment!

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)

I know others have really enjoyed this book, but it really didn’t work for me.

Almost Grace

This story didn’t engage me like I wanted and I didn’t connect with the characters.

Because You'll Never Meet Me (Because You'll Never Meet Me #1)

I really didn’t enjoy the second half of this book and promptly gave up!

Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2)

I feel bad for featuring this book as I know so many love it, but the series really didn’t work for me.

Hunting Lila (Lila, #1)

I know a lot of my blogging friends adore this book, but again, it didn’t work for me. I think my main problem was Lila! I just didn’t connect with her as a character.

How have you taken on this list? Feel free to leave me a link to your post and I’ll stop by!

Ten Series That I Have Quit!

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s list are the Top Ten bookish things we want to quit, or have quit. We could be creative with this list, but all of my creativeness has seem to have disappeared! I thought I’d look at ten series that I have given up on. Me being me, I’m quite happy to be persuaded to continue if it’s really a book series you love…so let me know!

As ever, click on the book image to get to Goodreads!

Matched- Ally Condie

Matched (Matched, #1)

I started the second book in the trilogy, but I just couldn’t get on with it. I found it unoriginal and not very exciting to read.

Eve- Anna Carey

Eve (Eve, #1)

I thought this book was okay, but I’m not excited enough about it to continue reading.

The Pledge- Kimberly Derting

The Pledge (The Pledge, #1)

Again, another series I could take or leave, so I decided to leave…

Vampire Academy- Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)

I’m sorry! I know this series is really popular but it just didn’t do it for me. I don’t think I could commit to the rest of the series when I found the first book a bit dull.

Across The Universe- Beth Revis

Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)

I thought this series was going to be my kinda thing, but it wasn’t. It was okay, I’m just not inspired to continue.

The Darkest Minds- Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)

I really wanted to like this series too, but I didn’t connect with the characters at all.

The Selection- Kiera Cass

The Selection (The Selection, #1)

I was happy with it finishing with The One, I just have no interest in the rest of the books!

The 5th Wave- Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1)

The 5th Wave took me ages to get into and then hasn’t really stayed with me, so I’ve decided not to continue!

Partials- Dan Wells

Partials (The Partials Sequence, #1)

I remember liking Partials but it’s been so long since I’ve read it that I’ve lost interest in the books!

Rebel Belle- Rachel Hawkins

Rebel Belle (Rebel Belle, #1)

I enjoyed Rebel Belle but I’m not really interested in the next book, especially after very mixed reviews!

Do you think I should continue with any of these series? Which bookish things have you quit? Feel free to leave me your Top Ten lists and I’ll stop by!

The Ones That Got Away #3

cooltext1691231440

This feature is going to showcase some recent reads that I haven’t fully reviewed. This may be because I didn’t finish the book or that I didn’t have enough to say to warrant a full and fair review of a book that I’m sure others will absolutely adore. I figure this way the books will be highlighted and someone somewhere might find the right book for them!

 The Pledge- Kimberly Derting

The Pledge (The Pledge, #1)

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she’s spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It’s there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she’s never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can’t be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

 The Darkest Minds- Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Please remember that not all of these books were DNF. Some I just didn’t have enough to say about them! If you’ve reviewed/loved these books-feel free to leave a link to your post! 🙂 It’s always interesting to read differing opinions.

Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they come up with a list for us to complete. This week it is Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR. I failed majorly with my Autumn TBR list. I am determined to get through these books, even if I have to shun other books until these are read!

1599096917788403

People keep telling me to read these two… I keep on letting other books through before I read them, but I promise I will read them both before the year is out!

I’ve wanted to read this book for ages now. I just haven’t got to it! I will… eventually!

206539476134776

I love Rachel Ward’s writing. I have been waiting to read Water Born for ages now, but I just haven’t had the time. I’ll MAKE the time! I also want to start her Numbers trilogy!

What are you hoping to read this Winter? Let me know! Feel free to leave your links and I’ll stop by your blog!

14 series on my radar for 2014…

I’ve mentioned before that there are so many series that I have yet to read, or series that I’ve started but not got around to finishing. It seems that almost every book I read these days is a series! I can’t keep up!

Series that I need to complete:

(Click on the book cover for my review, if I’ve read it already!)

-Mara Dyer-

8591107 12950372 15768409

I have so much love for Michelle Hodkin’s writing. This series is seriously crazy, but yet still so readable. It’s messed with my mind, and I NEED to know how it ends with The Retribution Of Mara Dyer. I hope I don’t hate the ending.

-Shatter Me-

13455782 13104080 13188676

I’ve absolutely been sucked into this world. I can’t wait to see how it finishes! I hope Ignite Me lives up to expectations!

-Under The Never Sky-

11594257 14742334 14288998

I haven’t loved this series as much as others I’ve read in 2013, but I’m still intrigued enough to see how it all ends. Into The Still Blue is the final book in the series.

-Chaos Walking-

2118745 6043849 8100904

This series is complete, but I’ve only read the first book in the series. I want to get around to reading the other two this year!

-The Lunar Chronicles-

cinder imagesCAUSDFEL 13206828

This is the only series on this list that won’t be complete by the end of 2014. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I’m looking forward to Cress being released this year. Winter will be published in 2015.

-Matched-

7735333 15812814 13125947

This series is complete, but I need to finish it! It hasn’t blown me away but I’m still intrigued to read it!

-The Selection-

10507293 16248068 15844362

This series is my guilty pleasure. It may not be the greatest piece of literature, but it’s fun.

I shall hopefully only have one series left to complete out of this selection (which is the last book in The Lunar Chronicles) if I managed to finish the series listed!

Series that I want to start:

(The first book in the series is listed, with the link going to Goodreads!)

9859436 9462812 9275658 8763666 9297774 12958103 9413044

I hope to begin these series this year! I’ve been meaning to start them for a while now.

Have you read any of the series that I’m yet to start? Which one would you recommend first? Let me know!
