The format of this book is what makes it so unique. I adored it!

George- Alex Gino

George

I find this book unique because its child-like narration is so authentic.

The Last Beginning- Lauren James

The Last Beginning (The Next Together, #2)

A sci-fi ish book with different formats. I’ve recently finished this book and I absolutely adored it!

One- Sarah Crossan

One

A hard-hitting book told in verse.

Cloud Busting- Malorie Blackman

Cloud Busting

This book deals with bullying through poetry ❤

The Girl With Glass Feet- Ali Shaw

The Girl With Glass Feet

A beautiful book with a fairy tale-esque story. My edition had silver page edges ❤

The Boy With The Cuckoo-Shaped Heart- Mathias Malzieu

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

Another fairy tale-esque story. So unusual, but so good!

Another Little Piece- Kate Karyus Quinn

Another Little Piece

Such an odd story. Yet, so compelling! I have a feeling that this book is either love or hate it though…

The Girl On Paper- Guillaume Musso

The Girl on Paper

This is definitely one of the most unique stories that I’ve read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Bird- Crystal Chan

Bird

I’ve included this one because of its beautiful writing. It really stood out for me in the middle grade genre!

I have listed some of these books before on my list, but I’ve added 5 new unique reads since I last made this list in 2014!

Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s list are the Top Ten Books We Picked On A Whim. I had to use my Goodreads list to go through this list. Many of my recommendations come from either my sister, book clubs or fellow blog bloggers.

In no particular order (images go to Goodreads)

My Best Friend’s Girl- Dorothy Koomson

My Best Friend's Girl

I picked up this book at an airport several years back. It started my love affair with Dorothy Koomson’s writing. She’s now an autobuy author!

Slumber- Tamara Blake

Slumber

I picked up this book having heard nothing about it and quickly fell in love with its fairy-tale-esque nature!

The Lost Daughter- Diane Chamberlain

The Lost Daughter

I picked up this book on a whim! It ended up being a 5 star read for me.

Memoirs of A Geisha- Arthur Golden

Memoirs of a Geisha

I read this book around the time that it came out. I thought it was an incredibly powerful read.

The Boy With The Cuckoo Clock Heart- Mathias Malzieu

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

I noticed this book on my sister’s shelf. She hadn’t (and still hasn’t) read it yet, so I decided to give it a go. It was very unusual.

Johnny Be Good- Paige Toon

Johnny Be Good (Johnny Be Good, #1)

I really enjoy Paige Toon’s writing. It’s not just chick-lit, there’s depth to it.

Sarah’s Key- Tatiana de Rosnay

Sarah's Key

I bought this when I visited a second hand book shop with my sister Beth. I absolutely adored this book which has stayed with me for quite some time.

The Other Hand- Chris Cleave

The Other Hand

This book is also known as Little Bee. I absolutely lapped it up! I don’t want to say too much about it, as it’ll ruin the story!

The Girl With Glass Feet- Ali Shaw

The Girl With Glass Feet

Again, this is a book that was spotted on my sister’s bookshelf. I’m lucky that she lets me read books before she’s read them! It’s a unique tale. Her edition is so beautiful with silver page edges!

Little Hands Clapping- Dan Rhodes

Little Hands Clapping

This book was certainly picked up on a whim. I didn’t know anything about it. It’s so strange, but funny at the same time!

In no particular order here are the books that I picked (images go to Goodreads!)

Second Chance Summer- Morgan Matson

Second Chance Summer

I adore this book. It was the second Morgan Matson book that I read. I wasn’t expecting to love it as I wasn’t a fan of her debut novel, but I’m glad that I was proved wrong.

My Best Friend’s Girl- Dorothy Koomson

My Best Friend's Girl

I didn’t intend to pick another sad book, but this book by Dorothy Koomson is so good! It’s moving and realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Name On Your Wrist- Helen Hiorns

The Name on Your Wrist

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It centres around Corin who lives in a world where your carpinomen- your soul mate- is marked onto your wrist at an early age.

Slumber- Tamara Blake

Slumber

I don’t recall talking about this book much on my blog, but I should do! Regular readers of my blog will know I love all things fairy tale, so this book was perfect for me!

The Lost Daughter- Diane Chamberlain

The Lost Daughter

This is the first book of Diane Chamberlain’s that I read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gripped me from the beginning.

The Boy With The Cuckoo Clock Heart-Mathias Malzieu

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

This book is ever so unique. I know it has mixed reviews, but I thought it was a quick, enjoyable read.

The Historian- Elizabeth Kostova

The Bronze Horseman- Paullina Simons

The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman, #1)

Bird by Crystal Chan was a unique read for me because there was just something incredibly beautiful about the writing. The writing immediately pulled me in and didn’t let go until I had finished reading.

11331421

I hadn’t really heard much about The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker until my sister bought it for me when she was on holiday.  This is another book with beautiful writing. Once you get used to the writing style, you’re completely drawn in.

6063110

This is such a unique read. The hardback cover I read has beautiful silver page ages. I’m a sucker for a beautiful book, both in appearance and inside. I loved the story.

6671933

Ah, I loved The Boy With The Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu. It’s a quick, fairy-tale esque read.

12749843

I thoroughly enjoyed The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Another fairy-tale book, with stunning writing. It’s intriguing and easy to read.

12665819

I was surprised that I enjoyed Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn so much.  I haven’t seen much middle ground surrounding this book. I think you either love it or hate it. I loved that this book confused me. It wasn’t straight forward. I hate being confused by a book, yet still utterly love it. That’s why this was a unique read for me.

6826861

This is such a weird book. Really weird. It’s actually really gross in sections. Dan Rhodes is certainly a unique writer.

7048800

I thought The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender  was a really well written book. The reason why I’ve listed it as unique is because of the wonderful title and it’s slight quirkiness/oddness!

15958671

The Girl On Paper by Guillame Musso is a fantastic book. Please don’t be put off by this cover! This book was strange to start with but it became such a wonderful story. One that I could definitely pull some amazing quotes out of about reading.

8591107

It had to be done. The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is one of the most unique series I’ve read. It completely messed with my mind. I NEED to know what happened. I NEED the last book in the series. I think it’s my most anticipated end book of the series so far!
