toptentuesday

Bella Swan- Twilight

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

I feel like this is going to be a popular choice this week. It may be a predictable choice, but I just can’t help it. Bella Swan is just such an annoying character!

Holden Caulfield- The Catcher In The Rye

The Catcher in the Rye

I do love The Catcher In The Rye but I think Holden Caulfield is a character you either like or dislike and for me… it’s definitely on the dislike side! I found the insights interesting, but he just wound me up!

Alex, Mollie, Veronica- Those Girls

Those Girls

This book is an exception to the whole liking the book but not the characters statement I made earlier. I thought the writing was engaging in this book, but I just could NOT connect with the characters. I disliked them so much and wished they would have had some character development.

Bev- The Disenchantments

The Disenchantments

I liked The Disenchantments but I could not connect with Colby’s love interest Bev. I really didn’t see what he saw in her. She had no redeeming qualities in my eyes!

Ashleigh- Thousand Words

Thousand Words

I adore Jennifer Brown’s writing. I enjoyed this book and although I liked the main character, Ashleigh, I didn’t click with her as much as I wanted to!

Gigi- Smart Girls Get What They Want

Smart Girls Get What They Want

This book was a good light read but I found Gigi, the main character to be totally unlikeable!

Bishop- Hexed

Hexed (The Witch Hunter, #1)

Bishop, the love interest in this book, completely annoyed me. I think I was supposed to find him sexy and mysterious but he just made me cringe!

Sam- Flesh and Blood

Flesh and Blood (Red Eye)

Flesh and Blood was a decent read, but I thought Sam, the main character, came across as a little immature!

Ryan- Tape

Tape

Tape was an interesting book. It was quite slow paced and I felt like I didn’t gel with the main character, Ryan.

Alice- Side Effects May Vary

Side Effects May VaryThis book really divided me. I thought it was good, but at the same time I really didn’t like the main character, Alice. She has so much going on and it’s terrible that she’s suffering with cancer, but unfortunately because of her behaviour I found myself disconnecting with her and disliking her!

What characters have you not clicked with? Feel free to leave a link to your Top Ten post and I’ll stop by!

Hexed (The Witch Hunter #1)

Hexed (The Witch Hunter, #1)

How did I get it?:
I bought it!

Synopsis:

If high school is all about social status, Indigo Blackwood has it made. Sure, her quirky mom owns an occult shop, and a nerd just won’t stop trying to be her friend, but Indie is a popular cheerleader with a football-star boyfriend and a social circle powerful enough to ruin everyone at school. Who wouldn’t want to be her?

Then a guy dies right before her eyes. And the dusty old family Bible her mom is freakishly possessive of is stolen. But it’s when a frustratingly sexy stranger named Bishop enters Indie’s world that she learns her destiny involves a lot more than pom-poms and parties. If she doesn’t get the Bible back, every witch on the planet will die. And that’s seriously bad news for Indie, because according to Bishop, she’s a witch too.

Suddenly forced into a centuries-old war between witches and sorcerers, Indie’s about to uncover the many dark truths about her life—and a future unlike any she ever imagined on top of the cheer pyramid.

Thoughts:

I had such high hopes for Hexed but unfortunately it fell a little short for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was an interesting read and I was intrigued enough to continue reading, but it’s not a book that I would highly recommend. I think some readers will very much enjoy this book. It’s well written but I found it to be a little too predictable for my liking. I also thought it was a little cheesy in places.

Hexed centres around Indigo who is a popular cheerleader. Her mum is a little quirky and runs an occult shop. Strange things start to happen to Indigo, after a man dies right in front of her. A mysterious guy in a leather jacket keeps on turning up. His name is Bishop…and there’s more to him than meets the eye. Indigo begins to learn there’s something more about her than she ever imagined!

The characters in this book are going to divide people, that’s for sure. I think there are some likeable ones in there, but unfortunately some characters I just could not connect with. Bishop is one of them. He’s supposed to be the sexy, mysterious stranger, but he just made me cringe! I also wasn’t keen on Indigo’s shallowness. I didn’t like how she was dismissive of Paige because Paige wasn’t popular and was a little nerdy. Indigo was afraid of losing her popularity and I don’t like that. ..

This book does have some good points though, which is why I continued to read it. It was fast paced and easy enough to read, it was just the characters that I couldn’t connect with. So whilst I personally wouldn’t continue with the series, I can see that some readers will totally gobble it up which is why I’m reviewing it!

Would I recommend it?:
It’s not for me!- 2.5 stars

Whilst I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I wanted to, I think others might! It’s fast paced and easy to read!

I am joining in with the lovely Lipsy from Lipsy’s Lost and Found’s feature which highlights our week in books. I shall be sharing what I’m reading now, then and next and what I’ve recently added to my wishlist. I won’t be showcasing my new books as I do that on a Saturday. I’m really excited by this feature as I loved sharing my recent reads. My book reviews published on my blog are often WAY behind what I’m actually reading, so this is a good feature to keep you up to date!

As you might guess, this month I’m working on reading series. I’m finding that dedicating every second month to series means I’m getting through a lot more than I was before.

Now- I am just starting Hexed by Michelle Krys. I have heard mixed things about this book, but I really like to check out a book myself before dismissing it!

Then- I finished Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano. Oh gosh. I can’t express how much I loved this book. I think Lauren DeStefano is an amazing writer and I’ll certainly be buying the next book so I can continue with this series!

Next- Next up I will be finishing the Legend series by Marie Lu. I am looking forward to finishing this series. I didn’t like Prodigy as much as I hoped I would (I know, I know. I’m a naughty bookworm!)

Added to my wishlist!

This Shattered World (Starbound, #2)

Please feel free to leave a link to your posts which detail your week in books, whether you link up with Lipsy or still post WWW Wednesday posts. I love to see them all!
