Ten Characters I Didn’t Click With

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s list are the Ten Characters I Didn’t Click With. The characters I have mentioned have been in books I’ve enjoyed, I’ve just not clicked with the characters as much as I wanted to!

Bella Swan- Twilight

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

I feel like this is going to be a popular choice this week. It may be a predictable choice, but I just can’t help it. Bella Swan is just such an annoying character!

Holden Caulfield- The Catcher In The Rye

The Catcher in the Rye

I do love The Catcher In The Rye but I think Holden Caulfield is a character you either like or dislike and for me… it’s definitely on the dislike side! I found the insights interesting, but he just wound me up!

Alex, Mollie, Veronica- Those Girls

Those Girls

This book is an exception to the whole liking the book but not the characters statement I made earlier. I thought the writing was engaging in this book, but I just could NOT connect with the characters. I disliked them so much and wished they would have had some character development.

Bev- The Disenchantments

The Disenchantments

I liked The Disenchantments but I could not connect with Colby’s love interest Bev. I really didn’t see what he saw in her. She had no redeeming qualities in my eyes!

Ashleigh- Thousand Words

Thousand Words

I adore Jennifer Brown’s writing. I enjoyed this book and although I liked the main character, Ashleigh, I didn’t click with her as much as I wanted to!

Gigi- Smart Girls Get What They Want

Smart Girls Get What They Want

This book was a good light read but I found Gigi, the main character to be totally unlikeable!

Bishop- Hexed

Hexed (The Witch Hunter, #1)

Bishop, the love interest in this book, completely annoyed me. I think I was supposed to find him sexy and mysterious but he just made me cringe!

Sam- Flesh and Blood

Flesh and Blood (Red Eye)

Flesh and Blood was a decent read, but I thought Sam, the main character, came across as a little immature!

Ryan- Tape

Tape was an interesting book. It was quite slow paced and I felt like I didn’t gel with the main character, Ryan.

Alice- Side Effects May Vary

Side Effects May VaryThis book really divided me. I thought it was good, but at the same time I really didn’t like the main character, Alice. She has so much going on and it’s terrible that she’s suffering with cancer, but unfortunately because of her behaviour I found myself disconnecting with her and disliking her!

What characters have you not clicked with? Feel free to leave a link to your Top Ten post and I’ll stop by!

British Books Challenge 2014: The round up!

The British Book Challenge was set up to show support for British Authors. By signing up I promised to read at least 12 books by British Authors. That’s equal to one book a month.

It’s safe to say that I exceeded this challenge this year.

Bookish Bingo Wrap Up

I participated in Bookish Bingo  which was hosted by the lovely ladies over at Great Imaginations. I managed to read a book for EACH of the squares. I’m very proud of the reading I managed in the months of April, May and June. I’m totally getting involved in the summer edition of Bookish Bingo. Welcome to another WWW Wednesday! To participate in WWW Wednesday, you need to answer three questions.

•What are you currently reading?
•What did you recently finish reading?
•What do you think you’ll read next?

Click on the book cover to get to the Goodread’s page for the book.

What are you currently reading?

I’m a big fan of Paige Toon’s writing. I love how she uses characters (even in a very minor way) from her other books in each book. It feels like it’s a whole community and makes each book feel so familiar. I’m just over a quarter of the way through Thirteen Weddings. It won’t take me long to finish. It’s got a good pace and characters that I care about.

What did I recently finish reading?

I finished Just Like Fate by Cat Patrick and Suzanne Young last night. This is a short read. Caroline has to make a decision about whether to stay or go at the hospital, following her grandmother’s stroke. The story takes the reader on what would have happened if she stayed, or went. I found this book interesting, but it didn’t quite match up to what I had expected from it. It kind of reminded me of Pivot Point by Kasie West at times.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next up for me, is the very brightly covered Tape by Steven Camden. I’m very intrigued to read this book because I’ve heard such mixed opinions about it!

What are you reading this week? Please feel free to leave your links to your WWW Wednesday posts or answer the questions in the comments below! Happy Reading 🙂

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you’re adding to your shelves, be it buying or borrowing. From ‘real’ books you’ve purchased, a book you’ve borrowed, a book you’ve been given or an e-book they can all be shared!

I seem to have acquired quite a few books this week! I pre-ordered 3 of them, and forgot about them, so it was a nice surprise for them to pop through my door!

As ever, click on the book image to get to its Goodread’s page!

CressMarissa Meyer– By the time this post goes out I’m hoping to have finished Cress! I think it’s come to me early, as I certainly was surprised when it popped through my door! I’m not complaining though! 😉

The SoundSarah Alderson– I haven’t read any other books by Sarah, but I think this book sounds fantastic. The blurb really pulled me in!

The Accidental Life Of Jessie JeffersonPaige Toon– I have read every book by Paige Toon. She’s one of my favourite writers in the chick-lit genre. This book is her first venture into Young Adult and I’m certainly intrigued! This one might bump up the TBR list!

Find MeRomily Bernard– Another one that just looked fabulous. I had to have it.. even though my already bought books are screaming out to be read. I guess it can go and join them on my bulging bookcases! 😉

TapeSteve Camden– This was another pre-order. I’m trying to read more debut authors this year and Tape sounds like it’ll be great!

I don’t why, but I go for ages without being approved.. just many books pending, then they all seem to be approved at once! Again.. not complaining just stating! 😉

Panic_HC_JKT_des4.indd 18073726 18336595

Panic- Lauren Oliver– I was so thrilled to be approved for this book. I love Lauren Oliver’s writing. I didn’t love Requiem, which was a great shame as the beginning of the series was so good! I’m hoping Panic will restore my faith in Lauren’s writing!

Dead SilentSharon Jones– I’ve recently read Dead Jealous and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to seeing what Poppy gets up to next!

The Girl With A Clock For A HeartPeter Swanson- It’s been a while since I read a decent adult mystery/thriller. I’m looking forward to this one!

Have you read any of these? What did you think? What did you buy this week? Feel free to tell me in the comments below or leave your links for me to look at!
