Top Ten Tuesday: All About The Villains!

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful The Broke and The Bookish. For this week’s list it’s all about the villains! I loved putting this list together. I love a bookish villain!

Voldemort and Dolores Umbridge- Harry Potter

Voldemort has to be one of the ultimate villains in children’s literature. He’s so evil, I love to hate him. Dolores Umbridge also drove me mad but I loved it. J.K. Rowling sure knows how to write a villain!

Miss Trunchbull- Matilda

I used to be terrified of Miss Trunchbull when I was younger. She scared my class too, but they loved it at the same time.

The Grand High Witch- The Witches

The Grand High Witch is such a fantastic character. I really wanted to read this book to my last class but I think it would have scared them.

Amy- Gone Girl

Amy is a messed up character. She freaked me but I LOVED it.

The White Witch- The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Ooh, The White Witch was evil and powerful. Loved to read about her.

Mrs Danvers- Rebecca

I found Mrs Danvers to be so creepy. She got under my skin.

Queen Levana- The Lunar Chronicles

Love Queen Levana. I felt like Fairest helped to get to know the character more. I think she’s a fantastic villain.

President Snow- The Hunger Games

You have to have a great villain in a series like The Hunger Games. I think President Snow was a perfect villain.

Ty- Stolen

Ty got under my skin because he was so awful yet somehow you ended up feeling sorry for him? How does that work!?

Who are your favourite villains? Feel free to leave a link to your Top Ten post and I’ll stop by!

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4)

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

How did I get it?:
I bought it!

Synopsis:

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Thoughts:

I realise that not everyone is up to date with The Lunar Chronicles, so I’m going to try and keep this review as spoiler free (and therefore quite short!) as I can. Very tricky to do that with a fourth book in the series.

Winter is an incredibly long book at over 800 pages. Although I didn’t feel like the story was ever dragging. There were definitely moments within the story that it was hard to put it down. The last 100 or so pages are incredibly action packed and left me wondering where the story was going to go.

I absolutely loved that we were reunited with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress. I adored that we saw their relationships develop with their ‘Princes’. I absolutely loved the relationships and Winter and Jacin are no exception. I think Marissa Meyer writes romances so well. I have rooted for every one of the relationships. Levana is fantastic in this book. So wonderfully wicked.

One slight negative that I have about this story, was that it felt it could be condensed a lot more. 800 pages + is mammoth!

Would I recommend it?
Of course!

A fantastic ending to The Lunar Chronicles! I loved it!

Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles #3.5)

Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)

How did I get it?:
I bought it!

Cress

Synopsis:

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

Thoughts:

I wasn’t sure what I was going to make of Fairest. I’m not the biggest fan of novellas, but I was easily won over with Fairest. I thought it was a great story to bridge the gap between Cress and Winter. I absolutely adored this story. I was torn between giving it four and five stars, but I’ve gone for five because, in my eyes, there was nothing wrong with it at all.

I seriously believe that The Lunar Chronicles is getting better with every single book. I loved learning more about Levana, who had popped up in the previous books. I had really mixed feelings about Levana. On the one hand I really disliked her and on the other hand I felt really sorry for her. You’ll have to read it to see why! I was easily engrossed in this story, and really didn’t want it to end… but Winter is coming… soon (ish!)

The romance in this book is creepy, the way Levana manipulates is scary but wonderful at the same time! Even though this book is a novella, I think it really helps to learn more about Levana and somewhat understand the reason why she is how she is, even if you don’t agree with her actions. Levana is an amazing villain. I loved this book!

Would I recommend it?:
Without a doubt!

This book gave me mixed feelings about Levana! So worth reading if you love The Lunar Chronicles!
