Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the brilliant The Broke and The Bookish. They come up with a list weekly, for us to complete. This week’s list is Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters. This took a lot of thinking but I’ve finally come up with 10. I’m so intrigued to see what other bloggers come up with this week!

In no particular order here are my top ten most memorable secondary characters!

rue

RueThe Hunger Games–  I thought Rue was adorable. She was small, young and underestimated. She survived for a lot longer than people had expected. I also loved her friendship with Katniss.

cinna

CinnaThe Hunger Games- Cinna was Katniss Everdeen’s stylist. I thought he was a fabulous character.

sk

SadieTwenties Girl- I love a bit of chick-lit every now and again and Sophie Kinsella is one of my favourite authors of that genre. In this book Sadie is a spirit, the great-aunt of the protagonist. Sadie was such a great character.

9423

SuzeConfessions of A Shopaholic/The Secret Dreamworld of A Shopaholic- Suze is the best friend of the protagonist. She’s a brilliant character. I’d like her to be my friend!

The next two characters are from Harry Potter.

How did I get it?:
I bought it!

Synopsis:

Angelic powers, forbidden romance, and the choice between fulfiling your destiny or following your heart’s desire. Clara has known she is part-angel since she turned fourteen two years ago. But only now, through fragmented visions of a terrifying bush fire, is her Purpose – the crucial rite of passage for every part-angel – becoming clear to her. When Clara meets Christian, the boy in her visions, he is everything she could wish for – so why does she also have feelings for her enigmatic classmate, Tucker? Clara discovers that her Purpose is only a small part of a titanic struggle between angels and their destructive counterparts, the Black Wings. And when the fire of her vision erupts and both Christian and Tucker are in danger, who will she choose to save?

Thoughts:

I have wanted to read this series for quite some time now, so I finally slotted it in to the list of books I’m reading this month! I’m so glad I did, although now I have a problem… I want to read the second book in the trilogy ASAP. Angel books have become a little cliché but Unearthly should be set completely aside from those books.

Clara grows up as a completely normal girl, thinking she was human. When she turns fourteen, her mother tells her the truth. She is part angel and eventually will have a purpose. A reason for being born. Clara begins to have visions of her purpose when she is sixteen. The vision forces her family to move away from California in order to be near the boy she has to save. Clara finds herself growing closer to Tucker, her best friend Wendy’s brother. He was annoying at first, but now he really begins to distract her from her purpose.

I think both of the boys were really well written. It was easy to see why Clara would be interested in any of them. Clara was a great character, very easy to like and portrayed as very normal despite being part angel. She was as moody as any other teenager. Her family were also very likeable and it was great to read a story where they were all aware of the supernatural world.

I’m glad this isn’t a stand alone, because there is still so much the reader doesn’t know about angels. Clara doesn’t know much because her mother is hiding things from her. I hope throughout the trilogy it starts to unravel. It certainly keeps you guessing and engrossed. What we do know is told in an exciting way and I really can’t wait to read more.

Unearthly is an original angel story which I think is a gripping YA read. I can’t wait to read Hallowed.

Would I recommend it?:
Of course!
