Marly’s Ghost

When his girlfriend Marly dies, Ben takes a painful journey through Valentine’s Days past, present, and future.

Oh my goodness, I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. It was absolutely heart warming, much like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens from which this is re-imagined with a Valentine’s Day twist.

Marly’s Ghost is a short read which doesn’t take you long to devour. I felt its emotional impact from the beginning, right through to the middle and the end of the book. I couldn’t believe that I was drawn in so quickly. It’s surely a sign of a great writer when I became emotionally attached to a character in such a short space of time. David Levithan made me feel Ben’s grief. I felt his grief and understood how he never thought he could love again.

Ben tells us his story, of how he hates Valentine’s Day after losing Marly. He couldn’t bare to see people in love or share their feelings about others with him. Ben just wanted to be alone. One night, Marly visits him and tells him that he’s going to meet three ghosts of past, present and future. These ghosts take him to the past, present and future and much like Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Ben learns that he needs to embrace those people he has left in his life before it’s too late.

Marly’s Ghost made an incredible impact on me. I really enjoyed the twist on the classic Christmas tale. This will become a favourite of mine for sure.

Would I recommend it?:
Without a doubt!

A beautiful, quick, well written read.

Yes, just like these girls. (Don’t you just love Beauty and The Beast?)

It took me a while to come up with these books, and I realised that most of the time it’s the relationship that really makes me swoon. (Click on the book image to get to the Goodread’s page!)

Saving JuneHannah Harrington

Saving June

You might think that this is an odd book to include, because it is incredibly sad. However, the relationship between Harper and Jake is so cute. It builds gradually. There’s tension. There’s music involved (Always a winner for me..)

Losing HopeColleen Hoover

It was definitely all about Holder in this book. I loved reading his point of view. Very swoonworthy character in my opinion!

The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight- Jennifer E.Smith

Whilst this isn’t my favourite book of all time, it’s a short and cute read. There are some swoon-worthy lines in there, that I’m sure a lot of people would want said to them!

The Unbecoming Of Mara DyerMichelle Hodkin

I admit it. I’m in love with Noah Shaw in this series. I’m in love with the series as a whole actually! It’s a head-wrecker. But oh so good!

Divergent- Veronica Roth

I absolutely adored Divergent. The part of Divergent that makes me swoon is Tris and Four’s relationship. I like how he doesn’t feel like he has to constantly protect Tris. She’s kick ass enough already.

Shatter Me–  Tahereh Mafi

I thought this book was brilliant. I loved the relationship between Adam and Juliette.  “God, Juliette, I’d follow you anywhere. You’re the only good thing left in this world.”

The Sky Is EverywhereJandy Nelson

A simply beautiful book. Very sad, but very touching too. Jandy Nelson is a terrific writer and I can’t wait to read her next book!

Me Before YouJojo Moyes

12649718I’m pretty sure that I always put this book on my Top Ten list whenever I can. I think it is possibly one of my favourite books of all time. Touching, emotional and a good romance. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

And For Your InformationDenise Deegan

This is another book where the relationship really touched me. It was beautiful.

Flat Out Love- Jessica Park

A brilliant book with a fantastic mix of relationships, banter and family issues. I loved the relationship in this book!
